Specialty insurance that goes the distance for you!

It happens all to often - RV Owners place their travel trailers or fifth wheels on their auto policies thinking they'll save money in the long run. Truth is, standard auto policies aren't designed to insure the specialized need of your travel trailer. In the event of a loss, you could lose thousands of dollars due to insufficient coverage.

Most auto policies don't cover personal items carried in a travel trailer. Most don't include liability insurance when the travel trailer is parked and used as a residence. Most don't cover attached acccessories like awnings, antennas, rooftop air conditioners and satellite dishes. And most don't cover expenses for lodging or traveling home if you can't stay in your travel trailer because of covered loss.

RV PorchWhat's more, even minor claims on your travel trailer may dramatically increase your auto policy premium. That's something you don't have to worry about with a seperate Foremost policy for your travel trailer. Foremost claims have no effect on your auto insurance rates.

We cover all kinds of rigs

A Foremost travel trailer insurance policy can provide all these important coverages and more. Foremost has created specialized policies for all types of travel trailers and fifth-wheels, including:

  • High Value Units
  • Low Value Units
  • Older Trailers
  • Park Models
  • Tent Campers

Staying Put?

If your travel trailer or fifth-wheel is permanently parked for weeekend, seasonal or year-round use, you may be elegible to purchase Foremost's Stationary Travel Trailer policy. This policy gives you broad coverage for damage to your rig, personal effects and liability coverage--even when you're not using your rig as a residence. Best of all, it saves you money by deleting collision coverages designed for over-the-road use. Ask your agent for details on this popular program.

Total Loss Replacement Coverage

Total Replacement coverage protects your travel trailer from the effects of depreciation. If your new-model travel trailer is destroyed within its first five model years, and you're the original owner Foremost will pay to replace it with a brand new travel trailer of similar kind and quality. In the event of a total loss, all you have to do is replace the travel trailer. In years six through ten, Foremost will give you up to what you paid for it originally toward the purchase of another travel trailer if your travel trailer is totally destroyed.

Example: a fire totals your travel trailer you paid $60,000 for three years ago, brand new. It was worth onyl $33,000 at the time of the fire, and it will cost $69,000 to replace it with a new trailer now.

* Actual settlement depends on the deductable chosen.
** The Total Loss Repleacement coverage endorsement is available to the first owner of new-model travel trailers only. You must replace the unit with a new one of like kind and quality. Otherwise you will be paid the Actual Cash Value of your travel trailer at the time of the loss.
+ "Typical Auto Policy Settlement" is based on the standard policy most insurance companies use to insure RVs. Your policy settlement may differ from what is shown. Please read your current policy carefully or ask your agent to explan the differences.

Why it's vital to know the value of your travel trailer

"If only I would've known!"

They're words no one wants to say.
Unfortunately, a number of people do so every year after their RV is totaled or stolen, and they realize their rig was underinsured and that their loss isn't full covered.

Many RV owners choose insufficient coverage, or they don't update their coverage upon buying accessories or performing upgrades. Owners with loans on their vehicles end up not only out an RV, but also with out-of-pocket costs to cover or extra payments to make after their RV is gone.

Factors to consider

  • Overall condition. Does your travel trailer have any dents, paint chips or other minor defects? Is it in need of any upcoming repairs?
  • Accessories. Include everything you've added to your travel trailer. Update your insurance coverage soon after installing new accessories.

It's a good idea to compare your travel trailer with similar rigs, possibly in a dealer parking lot, in your local paper's classified ads, or on dealer Web sites on the Internet.

Bookstores and newsstands are also great sources for determining RV values. Another guide to help determine the book value on your travel trailer can be found by visiting the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Web site, which you can access through http://www.nadaguides.com.

Once you've established the value of your travel trailer, make sure your insurance policy provides the kind and amount of coverage you want.

Total Loss Replacement

Fires. Rollovers. Floods. Tornadoes. Hurricanes. Most epople, thankfully will never encounter these while RVing. But no matter how careful you are, they do happen. And they can quickly destroy your RV.

RV PicnicUnfortunately, many RVers insure their rig on their auto policy. trouble is, typical auto policies don't give you the opportunity to protect your investment against deperication. In other words, they'll only pay the Actual Cash Value (ACV) of your RV at the time it's destroyed. Thats the cost of the RV new minus depreation.

Foremost RV policies offer an optional coverage called Total Loss Replacemnt Coverage to protect your investment from the effects of depreciation. If your new-model RV is destroyed within the first five model years, and you're the original owner, Foremost will replace it with a brand new one of like kind and quality. In years six through ten, Foremost will give you up to what you paid for it origionally toward the purchase of another RV. If you choose not to replace your RV, Foremost will pay you the Actual Cash Value of the RV at the time it was destroyed.
